Tamara Lackey is a renowned professional photographer, speaker, author and program host. Her authentic photography, from children’s portraits to humanitarian photography, is praised within her industry and published internationally. Her work is featured in a myriad of major media outlets, from popular magazines to entertainment sites to talk shows.
Tamara is a Nikon USA Ambassador, speaking on behalf of Nikon at a variety of shows and conventions. She was also selected as one of two photographers from around the world to speak on stage, and present her marketing campaign work, as part of the Nikon Global Launch Event, in Tokyo, introducing a new line of ground-breaking mirrorless camera systems.
Tamara is the grateful recipient of the WPPI/Rangefinder Humanitarian Award, awarded on behalf of her work with Beautiful Together. She and her husband co-founded this 501(c)(3) non-profit to improve the lives of orphaned children, and those living in extreme poverty, through a variety of projects and funds. She has also received the PMDA Photographers Give Back Award and the WPPI Adorama Inspire Award. In 2017, a gallery of her work with Beautiful Together exhibited at the Union Square Ballroom in New York City.
Tamara speaks at quite a range of programs, seminars, and conventions, from delivering presentations on the Google stage to leading mentor treks to delivering workshops internationally. The author of eight books, including Capturing Life Through (Better) Photography™, which won the Booklist Editors’ Choice Award in multi media, her latest is Start To Finish: The Portrait Shoot Playbook.
Tamara has co-produced and hosted multiple live broadcasts for creativeLIVE and other livecast media, and she has also hosted her popular web series, The reDefine Show, since 2011. She was also the subject of a five-part web series on photographing children and family portraits, entitled Nikon Behind The Scenes.
Tamara is the co-creator of Lush Albums, eco-friendly fine art albums that give back half of all proceeds to Beautiful Together. She also has the distinction of being recognized as a Legend of Light by Profoto, an ON1 Guru and she is part of the Think Tank Pro Team.
Tamara’s studio is connected to Coco Bean, the independent coffee shop, cafe and creative space that she owns. She and her husband, their three children, and their active cadre of pets all live together in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
