Surrounded by meadows and ancient forests, glacier-capped Mount Rainier is the tallest mountain of the Cascade Range and an iconic symbol of the Pacific Northwest. In September 2016, the Mentor Series and Nikon professional photographers Wolfgang Kaehler and Tamara Lackey will travel to Washington State for a photo workshop focused on the natural light and beauty of the Northwest region.
Follow the Trail of Shadows through the old forests and wetlands of Longmire. Photograph the marshy bogs and mineral springs from a picturesque log cabin constructed in 1888.
Along the Sunrise Trail, we will take in the breathtaking views of Mount Rainier, Emmons glacier and the vibrant wildflower meadows that cloak this region.
A silver forest is what remains after fast-moving, intensely hot fires strip the trees of a forest, leaving behind bare trunks that are then bleached white by exposure to sun and wind. Capture the contrast of the ghostly white trees against the backdrop of lush green mountains and bright blue skies along the Silver Forest Trail.
Take advantage of the natural light at Tipsoo Lake and Reflection Lake, where we will capture sunset reflected across the still alpine waters.
We have arranged for afternoon and evening shoots at Paradise Falls, Myrtle Falls and Edith Creek, where the rushing waters and waterfalls are beautifully framed by Mount Rainier rising high in the distance.
